LUMINO MAGAZINE CONTRIBUTORS

Mike Kotlarczyk graduated from Drake University, with a B.A. in History and Politics, and minors in Economics and Philosophy. He has written for the Drake Times-Delphic both as a columnist and as Political Editor. His work has also been published in the Drake Undergraduate Social Science Journal, of which he is now an editor. He has also co-authored a paper presented at the Midwest Political Science Association conference in Chicago. For this month, Mike ponders what the Democrats should do next after losing big during the 2004 election.

Karen Scherer is a recent graduate of Drake University with a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication, and is Lumino's Journeyed editor. She's worked on three different magazines while at Drake, writing, editing and designing for print and online publications. Now, Karen is working in corporate communications, bartending and soaking up urban nightlife. At the end of 2004 she plans to feed her travel addiction by moving to Wales for six months on the BUNAC work abroad program. For this month's issue, Karen wrote part 2 of 3 about her escapades in Italy and also considered the xenophobe.

Steve Seamandel is a 2004 graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. He is Lumion's After Hours Milwaukee editor. He now lives in his hometown of Milwaukee, a writer by night and panhandler by day. You’ll occasionally find "Simpsons" references in Steve’s articles, as he claims to have learned "everything worth knowing" from the show. While not thinking of ways to rip off the famous cartoon, Steve enjoys chasing a band called The Disco Biscuits around the country. Someday, he hopes to get rich quick by writing a best-selling book that nobody else thought to write before him. Steve spent four years on staff at the UW-Stevens Point newspaper, The Pointer, serving as Outdoors Editor, Arts and Review Editor, Managing Editor and Editor in Chief. For After Hours Milwaukee this month, Steve wrote about LaFuente's Restaurant and At Random.

I refuse to write my bio in third person – it's a very awkward tradition. My name is Rachel Marusak; I grew up outside of Minneapolis; I recently graduated from Villanova University;and I am now living in PA working at Rodale, Inc. I am reading that sarcastic grammar book, "Eats, Shoots and Leaves," and I really hope I properly used the semicolon. Proper punctuation or not, I am a writer. This is my first time writing for Lumino Magazine, for the Journeyed section, and I think it’s awesome because it’s casual and I can write freely. Thank you, that is all. This month, I wrote about my long-distance love.
