Revolution still spinning after 30 years

I’m getting to the point where I can spot a good record store from a mile away. I won't claim to be an expert, but more accurately a slightly less than obsessive aficionado –  that is to say, my vinyl collection is sparse (I'm a nineties creature, bear in mind), I carry nothing but disdain for groovy tie-dye patterns and lighting incense, and I presently have no copies of “Empire Records” or “High Fidelity” in my DVD collection— which is the pH paper of the standard record store litmus test prototype.

Nevertheless, much like the records we all collect, we also collect our particular places to purchase them. And if you ask where Northern Illinois University students get their music, most would say Record Rev is their outlet.

Record Rev – the "Rev" is short for Revolution – has been in DeKalb for over 30 years.  So as you can imagine, even as much of the new Good Charlotte and D12 comes in, the place still tries to maintain its traditional vibe.

Be it hip-hop or indie rock, folk or metal, overall Record Rev has a decent selection for the kiddies and old folks alike to choose from. If you're in need of any rare LPs or cassettes there's a chance they've got it here. Otherwise, as you should in any record store, be sure to check out the used CD wall because you'll never know when you'll stumble upon a crown like Pet Sounds from The Beach Boys or The Butthole Surfers' Hairway to Steven in mint condition for a mere 7 bucks.
