Zimm's: A sports fan’s drinking heaven
Story and photos by JESSE FOLK
Almost smack dab in the middle of Des Moines, on the west end of the Ingersoll shopping district, you can find Zimm’s. With ample parking and other nearby eateries filling the void after Zimm’s doors close, it’s in a spot that can’t be beat. Zimm's is an interesting mix of sports, music, food and beer. While other bars can boast of bigger or more TV's, Zimm's always plays the right game at the right time. It can also make a Cubs fan feel right at home.
If you want to watch the big game, chill out or just have a good meal, Zimm's is a great place to stop.
ATMOSPHERE
Sports fans and those who just want to mellow out will feel right at home. Zimm's has a great selection of bands that play regularly, as well as the occasional special act. It has a full selection of game tables, with a couple that aren't seen at many other bars, (you have to go to understand.) The bartenders are the coolest in Des Moines and the cooks are top-notch.
PRICES
The booze is fair-priced but the food is a little more than it should be. Most meals (with your beer of choice) will run about $10. Happy Hour is the best time to go; the buffalo wings are insanely cheap and the specials are amazing. College students receive a dollar off everything including Happy Hour prices on Wednesdays.
