Hoosier haven still keeping fans happy

Former home of renowned basketball coach Bobby Knight and home of five national men's basketball champion ships, Assembly Hall is the Mecca of basketball in the Midwest. When people think of Indiana, they think of basketball, which explains why this arena still brings in full houses for the season.

ATMOSPHERE

You're watching IU basketball, baby! What more could you want? Naturally the fans are going to be decked in cream and crimson, cheering their heads off, regardless of the score. IU equals basketball, Final Four or not.

CROWD

The crowd is your typical Indiana basketball fan, speckled with the opposition. However, IU fans are pretty considerate (compared to their Big Ten counterparts) and they welcome friendly rivalry.

SPIRITS

IU is a dry campus, so you won't find any beer or intoxicants there. However, check out the bars on Kirkwood or Walnut before or after the game to grab a brew with Hoosier comrades.

GRUB

Don't expect anything unique here, fans. Typical ball games grub here. Nachos, popcorn, hot dogs, and soda. Luckily, there are concessions on the balcony level so you only have to make the major stair climb once.

WHY IT'S UNIQUE

Assembly Hall has a uniquely- shaped roof and interesting architecture. One major plus is that even in the balcony levels, it's pretty hard to have a bad view of the game. Plus, you'll sometimes see John Mellencamp (a Bloomington local) and Patrick Ewing (his son starts for IU) watching the games.
