From the opening music, the classic score immediately brings you into the world of Rocky Balboa. Many of us grew up with these films and the first one has once again been re-released on blu-ray now in the digibook format. The film was a game changer for struggling actor Sylvester Stallone, who not only stared in the film, but wrote it as well. The sleeper hit of 1976 became the highest grossing hit of that year and won three Oscars including Best Picture. The film spawned five sequels but it’s hard to compete with the grittiness of the original.Write Comment (5 Comments) |

Hollywood has gone crazy through the years insisting on remaking some of the greatest movies ever made. Yet, sometimes you can’t make a classic any better than it already has been done. Can you imagine The Graduate remade with a soundtrack by the Jonas Brothers staring Justin Timberlake? Sometimes you should just leave them alone. The Manchurian Candidate is one of those films that is pure perfection the first time around. Although the remake starring Denzel Washington in 2004 had a wonderful performance by Meryl Streep, the film still paled in comparison to the original 1962 film directed by the marvelous John Frankenheimer. The film has just recently been released to Blu-ray.Write Comment (4 Comments) |

Hollywood these days seem to be only churning out remakes, vampire flicks or superhero movies. However, every once in a while they go old school and peruse the New York Times Best Seller list. I Am Number Four dominated the list for seven straight weeks and is the first in a possible six-book series. The film premiered at the box office in February with a variety of mix reviews. Still with that said, the film found an audience and did well both in the US and overseas. If you missed it in the theater never fear it has just been released to Blu-ray.Write Comment (4 Comments) |
