While the first Miss Congeniality film sent the message that girls should learn to be prim and proper, "Miss Congeniality 2" teaches women that is okay to be yourself, even if that means hitting someone once in a while or snorting like a pig.

At the start of the film, agent Gracie Hart (Sandra Bullock) is struggling to fit back into her old job as an FBI field agent. But the newfound fame that came with saving the Miss United States Pageant prevents her from doing the necessary undercover work to stay in the field. So, when Gracies boss offers to let her do publicity work for the bureau instead, Gracie reluctantly agrees to be "the new face of the FBI." Gracie easily slips back into the role of a prim and proper gal until her friend, Miss United States, Cheryl (Heather Burns) is kidnapped along, with Stan Fields (William Shatner). With her hard-nosed rough-em-up partner, Sam Fuller (Regina King), and the help of expert make-up artist, Joel (Diedrich Bader) Gracie is able to get back into fieldwork.
"Miss Congeniality 2" ends on the uplifting note that being yourself and taking care of your friends are the most important things any woman can do or have. In a modern "Thelma and Louise" style, Gracie and Sam work together to overcome all the odds and drive off into the sunset, without a cliff.
The acting in the film could perhaps be better, as Bullock slips in and out of her Jersey accent. But she is charming as always and her snorting awkward FBI agent character will steal your affections. But there are two actors in this film who steal the show: Shatner and Bader definitely stand out. Shatner returns as the lovable pageant pro from the first film, and Bader plays Joel, the make-up artist who is hired by the FBI to help Gracie be the new face of the bureau. His winning portrayal completely steals the attention.
If you liked "Miss Congeniality," go see this sequel. Its not breakthrough movie making, but for what it is, it's well worth it, and it sends a positive message. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
