Sports champion documentaries are all the same in a sense. If you’re a fan of the team, you have to own it. If you’re not, you could care less.

Released November 29, 2005
Being that the Chicago White Sox had 88 years of buildup for their 2005 World Series victory, plenty of people have been waiting for this one.

Shout Factory’s “World Series 2005” White Sox DVD (available at Best Buy, Circuit City, Amazon.com and more) gets the job done.

The DVD begins in preseason, though it skips quickly through until the playoffs, as expected. But it gives a good feel for each series in the postseason, not just the World Series.

The narration is excellent, making you feel the drama and excitement of the Sox' run. The players interviewed are the Sox' best: Paul Konerko, Mark Buehrle, Frank Thomas.

It also has some behind the scenes features such as breakfast with Geoff Blum after his game 3 ending home run and clips from the Sox’ clinchers of the AL Central, the ALDS and the ALCS. There’s also a nice bit on the 1959 White Sox, the last team to make the World Series before the 2005 squad.

One downfall of these highlights is that the sound is inconsistent. Some calls are from White Sox’ local radio announcers, others from Fox’s TV crew. Some have crowd noise in tact, others are muffled, restricting viewers to hearing just the announcers, giving it an awkward feel.

At less than $20, though, this is a must for all Sox fans. There’s no more remembering the seasons that ended with dying hope, such as 1959, 1983, 1993 and 2000.

For those who need even more to remember your 2005 White Sox, look for a complete World Series broadcast DVD set by A&E Home Video on March 28. Pre-order pricing is around $90.
