For the second week in a row, most of the time spent on the island is wasted with island infighting and going-nowhere sexual tension scenes between Jack and Anna-Lucia or Kate and Sawyer. Sayid, Mr. Ecko and Claire continue to be either misused or underutilized (or both).
The flashbacks have, thankfully, improved over last week’s anvil-icious (and bad accent-filled) ones, focusing on Sawyer as he pulls more of his painfully run-of-the-mill cons but this time with the twist that he’s pulling a long-term con, with a lovely divorcé who happens to have a large amount of cash.
The flashbacks are ingenious when taking into consideration that a) Sawyer’s flashback-storyline has pretty much already run its course, which shows that the “Lost” writers have found a way to give characters flashbacks even if they have no more story to tell; and b) because the flashbacks connect to the island action by the end of the episode, but the audience doesn’t realize this fact until the ending’s two shocking reveals.
Speaking of shocking, Charlie suddenly became interesting in this episode. Once an annoying, prone-to-pratfalls source of comedic flabbery, the Charlie character grew a dark side (complete with an Anakin Skywalker-esque hoody) and proved to be (surprise!) interesting. Still, can we see less of Dominic Dominic Monaghan and more of, say, every actor we didn’t see in the last three episodes? Thanks.
IN OTHER DEVELOPMENTS:
Where is Michael? I don’t think we’ve ever had a time where a principal cast member has not appeared in two consecutive episodes before. At least this balances out his heavy amount of screen-time earlier in the season.
Charlie beating up Sun... How wicked is that? And will there be repercussions?
Everyone looked a little bit older in this episode than in the previous new one, especially Kate. Could this have been the first episode shot after the winter hiatus?

OVERALL RATING:
I’m still itching for some delicious plot development, but I suppose having some fun flashbacks and EVIL!Charlie can be good too. Does anyone else feel like “Lost” is losing it’s steam, though? “Grey’s Anatomy” was much, much more interesting this week in comparison.
