It was a Saturday night, not much going on, the weather was cold, and I wanted to get, er, tipsy, so, I went to Driftwood with a bunch of friends, listened to my iPod and jammed backstage…OK, wait, enough with that, I know, this isn’t my turn to rap.

Driftwood
1021 W. Montrose
Chicago, IL
(773) 975-3900
Hours: 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday through Friday
5 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday
Anyway, Driftwood, surprisingly, really impressed me. Sure, it isn’t in the heart of young people, but this bar is definitely worth the trip (right off Lake Shore Drive on Montrose).

One of the coolest things about this bar is they want you to bring your iPod to play on their stereo system. That’s pretty cool. And, they encourage you to order in – yes, get your pizza delivered here.

ATMOSPHERE

Love it. Very dark and all wood. Perfect place to just sit back, chill, and have a little booze.

CROWD

I don’t know if it was the cold (I will have a better read once I have been there a few times, which is a guarantee), but the place wasn’t overly crowded, and I really don’t know why. The people who were there were friendly – and didn’t mind checking out the girls in my group (including the hottie with her, um, panties showing a little. Maybe that’s why they were so friendly). It was a good mix of people who were there to have a good time – and definitely a nice quiet crowd you don’t mind sharing a drink with.

ENTERTAINMENT / EVENTS

There’s a pool table for you to entertain yourself, and like I said before, you can customize the bars play list. That’s pretty bad ass and entertaining.

SPIRITS

I stuck to my traditional Blue Moon, but the girls seemed happy with the Grey Goose and Soda. It is a limited bar, but sometimes less is more.

GRUB

No kitchen here, but the sweet thang is Driftwood encourages you to order in. Find me another bar that does that.

PRICES

Prices were OK, nothing that special, but it worked for me. It wasn’t an overly expensive night and the 75 cent pool made the night fly by.

WHY IT'S UNIQUE

Customize the musical playlist and order in. Nuff said!
