At the corner of North Avenue and Honore in the heart of Wicker Park beats the heart of an authentic Italian kitchen. At Lucia's you will find the best homemade Italian cooking outside of your mother's kitchen.
Actually, the food there probably puts a lot of Italian mothers to shame; it's just that good. Lucia's can't choose between being a deli and being a full service restaurant, which means double the delight for patrons. It is truly a business with multiple personalities. Whether you crave a killer sandwich or pasta for a quick lunch or knockout dinner entrees to make an impression with, Lucia's Deli Ristorante can provide it all and will surely make an impression on you.

CROWD
At Lucia's the patrons range from mid-twenties to mid-nineties; this truly is a place where people of all generations can come to enjoy great food. Don't be surprised to find Wicker Park hipsters enjoying Veggie Lasagna alongside Old World immigrants chowin' down on veal. It's just that kind of place.
ENTERTAINMENT
Well there's usually some music playing
honestly, Lucia's is not a place you go to be entertained by live music, it's a place you come to eat. Sometimes the interaction between the staff can be entertaining, and sometimes the clients are entertaining; but you really should let Lucia do the feeding and you can supply your own entertainment.
FOOD
OH MY GOD IS THERE FOOD! Lucia's offers two complete menus, one for the deli and one for the dining room. Each day there's a pasta special at the deli and specialty dishes in the dining room. Lucia's has many pre-determined sandwich recipes from traditional Italian Subs to Grilled Veggies on Foccacia, all of which come with chips. Substitutions aren't generally a problem and if you ask really nicely, you might even get a custom built sandwich. In the dining room, you'll find pastas in creative forms and sauces alongside comfortable standards for the unadventurous. There are also several meat and fish dishes as well as salads and appetizers. Right out of the gates they bring you warm Italian breads with butter. The dining room menu written mostly in Italian, so if you don't understand, that's okay, the wait staff will gladly explain it for you. Don't be afraid to try something different here, it's all damn good and in generous portions. When the weather is nice, enjoy your food on their outdoor patio. Lucia's is BYOB for now, something I hope they don't change, it really adds to the charm of the place. I don't think I can ever really do this place the justice that it deserves, so just go try it for yourself, you'll fall in love.
PRICES
Expect sandwiches to run between 4 and 6 dollars, non-alcoholic drinks are available for reasonable prices. The pasta special in the deli is usually between 5 and 7 dollars and comes with bread/butter. In the dining room, expect to spend anywhere between 10 and 25 dollars a person depending on what you want to have. A three-course meal for 2 could easily reach 60 bucks, but you'll have to loosen the belt a few notches when you leave. Believe me, the food is easily worth double what you'll pay.
WHY IT'S UNIQUE
In a time of cookie cutter chain restaurants that lack soul, Lucia's has a heartbeat and an honest to goodness soul. That's probably because it's run by an honest to goodness family; and you can actually meet Lucia when you go in there. You can also meet her husband and their kids - I'm not kidding when I say family owned! Their Deli is the definition of casual dining for lunch or dinner. The décor upfront screams Italian delicatessen and masks how original their menu can be. In the dining room, the atmosphere becomes classy and more formal. While there is no dress code, you'll want to dress up to match the quality of the food. Romantic lighting, roman columns, beautiful murals, and authentic photography grace the dining room. Bring lots of friends and be prepared for a great meal. Remember to wipe your feet at the door and introduce yourself, didn't your mother teach you better? Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
