Identical twins Ben and Steve Tegel came home after their short-lived college careers and decided they wanted to be musicians. They moved to L.A., started playing gigs, and with the addition of bassist “Dutch” Suoninen and drummer Denny Westin Jr. they became The Vacation, the band the brothers had always dreamed about.

"Band from World War Zero"
(Echo)
Released April 25, 2006
Their story is the same as thousands of guys before them, musicians from all over the world desperately chasing their pipe dream of rock stardom. But there's a crucial difference with the Tegels and The Vacation…they're really good, and they're upcoming major label debut “Band from World War Zero” is out there to prove it.

Starting the album off is the single “White Noise” a track that shows off everything the band does best. There's an immediate hook to the steady guitar riff and a breathing effect laid into the opening bars gives hint to the lyrical passion and edge to follow. All of this and an anticipation building bridge wrapped around a more than catchy chorus help to carry attention through the rest of the album. With the Tegel twins at the helm it's easy to see how the rest of the album holds a consistent sound, a well-timed series of swaying and stomping tunes that speak both to their working class beginning in Illinois and the sex and drug streets of L.A.

Nearly every song through the middle of the album paints a clear picture of lead singer Ben jamming to the first bars of his brother's guitar before snarling out his lyrics. The song, “Hollywood Forever” is an example of this and also of The Vacation's expertise in their chorus' springing seamlessly from the electric lines of their verses. In their often upbeat and definitely united sound, the band tells its either lonely, “Spiders”, or unapologetically indulgent, “Cherry Cola”, stories through the most entertaining means.

Paying homage to their rock predecessors and adapting those sounds to fit their own sensibilities The Vacation have put together an album worthy of purchase and desperate for a sequel. On April 25th, The Vacation takes off and they might not be coming down for a long time.
