Standing tall in a place where frilly boutiques, metrosexuals, and vegan friendly eateries are becoming increasingly common, The Smoke Daddy has its flag raised high. Barbecue and Blues is the name of their game and nobody is playing it better than them.

ATMOSPHERE

Stepping into Smoke Daddy is like stepping back into the heyday of Chicago blues. Dimly lit and packed wall to wall with tables, the swarthy sea of people only parts for the bar and kitchen. The walls are lined with pictures and records of men and women of the blues. The warming glow of neon lights welcomes the diner in and the aroma of smoked and barbecued meats keeps them there.

CROWD

I believe that the best restaurants do not attract stereotypes; rather their patrons can all be linked through a culinary commonality. That fits Smoke Daddy to the T. Attracting people from all walks of life, this is just a place where people come to eat phenomenally good food and listen to the blues. There will be at least one housewife, one businessman, one college student, and one grizzled old man at Smoke Daddy every time you go in.

ENTERTAINMENT / EVENTS

Live Music every night of the week. Most of them are pretty good and the open mic night even attracts good quality musicians.

SPIRITS

There’s a bar and there’s beer. It doesn’t get any more straightforward.

GRUB

Some have told stories of Smoke Daddy going down and selling its soul at the crossroads for food this good, but food this good comes from the soul. Not only are the meats fall off the bone tender, succulent, and infused with flavor, but the side dishes hold there own. My favorites are Beans and Cornbread, but the fries (regular and sweet potato), and coleslaw are excellent. Begrudgingly I must add that there is a vegetarian friendly entrée on the menu, but I’ll be damned if those aren’t the meatiest vegetable on the planet.

PRICES

You’ll barely have to crack open your wallet. The tab is incredibly reasonable for the quality and quantity of food, not to mention the top-notch service.

WHY IT'S UNIQUE

Smoke Daddy celebrates the culture surrounding the cuisine instead of borrowing it. In a time where fusion is more popular than the individual culinary styles alone, Smoke Daddy is a genre specific romp through the Blues, Barbecue, and good down home cookin’.
