Summer is almost upon us bringing the busy concert season and May is a good preview to what is to come. The Metro opens the month with three nights of Alkaline Trio, Pretty Girls Make Graves and the UK power metal of Dragonforce starting it all off. Along with Dragonforce there are a few other possibilities to choose that night.

May 2006 in music
Concert Dates:
5/2-4 Alkaline Trio
5/5 Pretty Girls Make Graves
5/6 Dragonforce
5/6 The Black Eyed Peas & The Pussycat Dolls
5/6 Ice Cube
5/13 Tool
5/16 Pearl Jam
5/23 T-Bone Burnett with Jacob Dylan
5/23 INXS
5/31 Panic Channel

CD Releases:
5/2 Neil Young
5/2 Gnarls Barkley
5/6 The Walkmen
5/9 Red Hot Chili Peppers
5/9 The Stills
5/9 Snow Patrol
5/16 Scissor Sisters
5/23 Art Brut
5/23 Serena Maneesh
The Black Eyed Peas are back once again this time bringing The Pussycat Dolls to take over the Aragon Ballroom and Ice Cube has remembered he is still a rapper doing a drive by at the House of Blues.

Other shows to make note, Tool are back after a healthy hiatus and Pearl Jam are making their first appearance after last year's $1,000 dollar ticket charity event. T-Bone Burnett makes a rare stop at the end of the month with Jacob Dylan along for the ride at the Vic Theater. That sounds like a better bet than INXS at the Rosemont Theater. Even though the Aussies did a fine performance recently at the Chicago Theater, it's still Rock Star: INXS and no one will ever be able to replace the late great Michael Hutchence.

Closing the month is Panic Channel or as I like to call them, Panic Addiction. Panic Channel is Jane's Addiction without their lead singer, the irreplaceable Perry Farrell. None the less, Dave Navarro will be on hand and that's never bad thing. I have high hopes for this band and how often do you get to see performers like these at of all places, the Double Door?

CD RELEASES

On the CD front, May is looking to be a promising month. Neil Young is on the attack with his “Living With War” album. There's been a lot of buzz with his already release single, “Impeach the President” and later in the year will take it on the road with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young on their “Freedom of Speech” tour.

Gnarls Barkley (aka Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse) who made a big buzz over the weekend at the Coachello Music Festival, will release their much anticipated collaboration, “St. Elsewhere.” The Red Hot Chili Peppers bring their California funk back for another jam session with their two disc set, “Stadium Arcadium” and with John Fruciante's beautiful melodic guitar still a part of the equation you never know what these funky brothers are going to deliver. The Scissor Sisters are also back with their Mick Jagger falsettos and Elton John piano boogie and this time even collaborating with the piano great. Let's hope it's as much fun as their self-titled debut.

Other releases to take note are The Walkmen, The Stills, Snow Patrol along with Art Brut and Serena Maneesh with the last two making a big splash at this year's South by Southwest Festival.

Here's to a great month of rocking out both at home and at the local hotspots!
