Duffy’s has quickly gained popularity as one of the top hot spots for returning college students, as the extremely young crowd usually provokes a high school reunion. However, the karaoke and drink specials are definitely an added bonus to the comfortable and entertaining bar.

ATMOSPHERE
When did you graduate college? Well, hopefully not that long ago, at least not too long to remember that swank small college bar everyone had to be at for thirsty Thursday. Well, that’s what the atmosphere at Duffy’s offers its patrons – only without a college near by. No, it’s not that trendy bar with the atmosphere that makes you want to drop the Benjamins, but it does the job.
CROWD
Like I said, welcome to college. A very young crowd fills this bar – much like the crowd at Doc’s. Of course you have the regulars (if you see a guy with a bald head named Nick who likes to sing Sinatra, say hello and give the man a high five. He just might buy you a beer), but this bar is still very young, but hip.
ENTERTAINMENT
Hit up Duffy’s on a karaoke night and the entertainment is sure to be exciting. The only downfall, on karaoke nights, don’t expect to have any breathing room (both because the bar is small and because nearly every patron smokes). On multiple occasions, I have played drinking games at my table, an activity that seems welcome.
SPIRTS
Great beer/drink specials. A good bar that won’t make your pockets bare.
PRICES
Look above. I think that explains that!
WHY IT’S UNIQUE
Simply because it is a college town bar in a town that doesn’t have a college. I promise though, definitely worth a visit, even if it’s just for one beer on your night of hoppin’. |
Research before writing Written by Guest on 2008-09-17 22:48:29 In the review above, Nick Powills writes over and over again that Duffy's is a college bar with no colleges nearby. That's not true. Dominican University and Concordia University are both within walking distance from the Madison Street bars. I am a Dominican student and yes, the majority of Duffy's 'regulars' are college kids...but come on Nick, do a little checking into before submitting an article. I'm a journalism major and know it's common sense to check the facts first! | RE: Research before writing Written by Guest on 2009-02-07 22:21:27 HAHAHAHA! owned! |
