Juston McKinney escapes the Afghan Print E-mail

Former police officer Juston McKinney is an absolute natural on the stage. His presence was engaging and he is immediately likeable. His topics covered mostly his home life, with a lot of emphasis on marriage and on his childhood. He referred to himself not as white trash but “white clutter.” The way he discussed his cute little dogs was truly funny, telling burglars that if they choose to rob him, all they need to do is turn down the heat and the little guys will shiver in the corner.

What truly made McKinney's act excellent, though, was his physical interpretation of everything he talked about. His facials expressions were entirely funny and he spent most of his hour and a quarter on stage with his eyes rolled back in his head.

McKinney has an excellent knack for tying information from the beginning of his act back into the end. Near the end of his show, he bent over his stool to illustrate what he was talking about and the photographer (me) snapped a few shots. McKinney turned around and said, “You don't have to print that, do you?” He then told the audience that he had a photographer on purpose so he could finally have his school photograph taken, a topic that he'd discussed earlier in the show. Everyone was impressed with his quick wit.

McKinney talked a bit about his earlier career as a police officer. He joked about catching a raccoon with an afghan, a piece of cloth that old people make because it's ok to have holes in it. He went on for a good 5 minutes about how no one can escape the afghan.

Most impressive about McKinney's style is that he rarely uses profanity. He is the recipient of the Listerine Clean Mouth Award for good reason; he delivered almost every joke with an absolutely clean style of speech. He threw in only a few weaker swear words, like damn, towards the end, only because he knew it was late on a Saturday night and there were no kids around.

McKinney's style of comedy is most likely offensive to no one and likeable to probably everyone. He is a mass of energy and it is almost impossible not to enjoy watching him.

This guy was hilarious and I can let you know from meeting him one of the nicest headliners I've ever worked with. Also that Dustin White guy who was in this show was amazing and is no doubt going to be a huge star.
