Vida has potential and a big crowd Print E-mail

The place was definitely packed with hotties, the bartender did some fancy drink pouring trick – further wowing the ladies, and the place was packed. But, on the particular night I visited the club/restaurant/bar, it just didn’t do much for me.

Vida Lounge

Vida Lounge seemed like it was the happening, hip, trendy spot of the night, but for something lacked -- partly because it was crowded and partly because it was really hot (turn on the damn air conditioning in the dance level) and partly because the valet guy stole $10 that was in my car (um, I know, I was the dumbass who left the cash there) – all in all, a great hot spot with tons of potential, but not there yet (I will try the club again in a few months and see if anything changed).

ATMOSPHERE/CROWD

The atmosphere and crowd were both great, as Vida was extremely crowded with gorgeous people, and had the air conditioning been on to cool down all the sweat dripping from people’s foreheads and underarms, it would have been even better. Bottom line, there were many good looking men and women for the taking. And the ambience was sleek as well – from the old school brick walls to the two different bars on each level to the colors. Great club, just lacked the extra punch to make this an even hotter spot.

ENTERTAINMENT

There was a solid mix of salsa dancing and hip hop beats assisted by a solid DJ. Even though I attended on a Saturday, Vida is a top notch club for salsa dancers, as Thursday night are Noches de Tango y Salsa – which translates to free tango lessons from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. And, a live band plays upstairs on the last Saturday of every month.

SPIRITS/GRUB

Vida is known for the flowing sangria and top notch mojitos. The prices are comparable toe every other club in the city, although, check the Web site for specials. Also, the kitchen is open until 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until midnight on weekends. Appetizers are served all night – easily hitting the drunken muchies crowd.

PRICES

There is a cover charge on weekends for the night of dancing, but nothing Chicago nightlifers are not used to. Drink prices remain competitive.

WHY IT’S UNIQUE

First off, it’s not on a major street – um George (cool street name to begin with), right off of Lincoln – and it is probably one of the most diverse clubs you will find, as in people of every race. The music was eclectic and the drinks seem favorable. Again, this place could be tops with just a few slight changes, but definitely worth a place checking out for some great dancing and music culture.
