Inn-joy is a treat for those in the know, a hidden little gem on the backside of wicker park that has found wild popularity with the hipsters and “anti-hipsters” alike. Imaginative food, fun drinks, and bad ass music make this the place to be.
ATMOSPHERE
The joint is swanky. From the velvety curtains to the aqua lounge era booths, the vibe is poured on thick. There are tv’s of course, but they are usually playing something fun and random like Mr. T’s Be Somebody… or a samurai film. The walls are accented with giant photographs and there is even a section dedicated to neon signs. I particularly enjoy the cozy booths in back, that let you get away from the flow of the restaurant and bar.
CROWD
Inn-Joy attracts the yin and yang of Wicker Park/Bucktown. Those we would call hipsters and those at the opposite end of the spectrum. However, this does not seem to be the place to pick up singles, in that, everyone seems to be in couples or groups, making the prowl more difficult.
ENTERTAINMENT / EVENTS
There are DJ’s spinning the majority of the time, anything from house to rock to obscure. It’s a good mix and a nice change of pace from muzak.
SPIRITS
Plenty of wine and beer, but the real find here is their selection of mixed drinks, try Mini-tini night to get a taste of a bunch of them.
GRUB
Big salads, beefy burgers, and phenomenal pizzas make up the bulk of the menu. There is also a fair helping of pastas. My pick to click is the fish and chips especially all you can eat on Fridays. 25 cent wings on Mondays with your choice of sauces ain’t bad either. But who are we kidding here? All of the food is damn good at Inn-joy.
PRICES
Prices are reasonable to mid ranged, good deals on bottled beer and monthly wine specials. Fridays and Mondays provide their best bang for the buck.
WHY IT'S UNIQUE
Inn-joy brings the hip modern flavor but leaves the high prices and snobbery behind. This is a fun place to go with friends where everybody will find something they like.
