Summers still full of memories Print E-mail

As the hot Chicago heat brings on a new summer, I never believe that this summer will be better than the last, mostly because I have had some damn good summers. But, at the end of each summer, I am pleasantly surprised at the impact the previous three months had on my life.

Summer seemed to take forever to hit us this year. The weather has been sporadic and we have had a few too many cold days and nights – but thankfully it looks as if the summer is now ready to be consistent.

Last summer was spectacular and full of lifelong memories. Almost every day provided some sort of impact on my soul to feed my energy for the duration of the winter. My friends were incredible, the girl I dated provided plenty of entertainment, the experiences were impacting and full of visual sensations – it was a damn good summer.

For the majority of our generation, as we get older our summers become a little different. There are no more three-month vacations from school and we can’t go to the pool every day, but adult summers are almost like a new breed of summer.

My memories of summer from my childhood are full of baseball games, all day adventures at the pool, cops and robbers on bikes, and ghost in the graveyard at night. And now, my summer memories are different. We can go to a beer garden, catch a Cubs game, go to festivals and enjoy the art, go to the beach – really, do anything, thus planting a new type of memory in our soul.

There is definitely something special about Chicago – and Midwest – summers. We really only have a few months to enjoy them, but if you are anything like me, at the end of each summer you realize just how great it was. We only have two months left of summer, but in the first month I have had plenty of great experiences.

One philosophy I hold deep to my heart is the idea that life is too short – you must enjoy every second of it, or else it will just pass you by. Memories can be built from any situation but making sure you have big events in your life, and specifically the summer, will give you such a smile when you reach the ages of our parents. Here’s to the summer – get out there, enjoy it, and build a log of memories for 2006.

Rock on!
