For the Flaming Lips, this was a return not to forget. The band, making its return to the Lollapalooza lineup for the first time since 1994 was nothing less than magnificent, as their show was full of theatrical thrills full of giant balloons, space walking, Martians, Santa look-a-likes, confetti, and put chaos.

If frontman Wayne Coyne's Lollapalooza motive was to turn a few more music fans onto his musical extravaganza, he definitely succeeded.
The Lips began their hour long set (ended early by Lolla organizers only slating one hour for their gig) just as they have other big shows - with a splash. Coyne climbed into his space bubble and walked - literally walked - across the stage as dozes of Santas and aliens cheered him on. Soon thereafter, giant blue balloons were thrown into the crowd, as smiles lit up the crowd's faces as Coyne jumped into his set.
The Oklahoma trio's is currently trying to push their new album, “At War With the Mystics” - a solid album that hasn't enjoyed as much commercial success as expected. But, as the crowd was introduced to some of the new songs, more and more albums could be moved off Chicago shelves this week.
The wear and tear of the road has certainly not done much to the Lip's on-stage charisma as they rocked out “Free Radicals”, entertaining the crowd with a sing-a-long option and making their set one of the most memorable moments of the weekend.
With such a powerful presentation of comedy, theater and music, the Lips very well could have closed out one of the days, as their performance was certainly one of the crowd favorites and glued memories of the weekend.
