Blackalicious didn’t so much as storm the stage trying to send his message out, he rather pulled you in like a magnet.

PlayStation Stage
Lollapalooza

Standing in one spot for almost the entire show, Black rocked through classic songs from, Blazing Arrow, his critically acclaimed record to his more recent releases. Always shooting for higher ground when composing his work, Blackalicious set a positive mood over the crowd that everyone could enjoy. Although, the heat which is eternally a problem in August in Chicago, it never made him lose pace, and the audience appreciated it ten-fold, since it took our thoughts off of the sweat perspiring down our forehead.

The little shade that was offered by the play station stage, for the audience as well as for the artist, did little to block to the sun. But instead of backing down from the challenge, it only fueled his sometimes aggressive rhyming style to angrier heights. Especially, through a sweet freestyle that ended with him nearly screaming into the microphone, screaming his passionate stance on whatever he was talking about, because the microphone got so distorted, it was impossible to decipher his words, which then turned into whole other problem.

The man can rhyme…fast. Very fast. Now I don’t know about, Twista fast, but the guy would give any rapper a serious run for his money on the how many sentences can I say in 30 seconds category, although as I said earlier, his words became a little slurred that made it really hard to understand what he was saying. So, while nothing really exciting other than the freestyle happened, a few gems were dropped that were obvious crowd pleasers including, “Rhythm Sticks, and Make You Feel That Way.”

All in all, I would definitely check him out again the next time he comes through Chicago. But in terms of really holding it down, I’d have to say that he really didn’t get the job done, better luck next time.
