For the Editors, the last year has been nothing less than crazy, as the band has ventured around the world turning more and more music fans onto their post-punk debut album, “Back Room.”
For Leetch, the last year has been a blur, but there was no way the band could turn down the opportunity to play on a stage at Lollapalooza before heading to San Diego and then Japan for the next leg of the tour.
Lumino: You must be pumped to be playing on such a big stage in front of thousands of your fans.
Leetch: We are very excited. We have been playing big stages in the UK so we are ready for this (interviewed prior to the Editors hour long set on the Q101 stage). It will be smooth running today. The fans will get what we are doing.
Lumino: Having been on the road supporting such a great album must get tiring.
Leetch: Yeah, we have been traveling a lot. We just got into town four hours ago and then we go straight to San Diego right after our set and then to Japan and then back home for a few weeks for some European shows. It’s tough, but it’s good.
Lumino: Wow, that’s a tough travel schedule.
Leetch: Yeah, but we will get to just chill in San Diego. We have been very busy, but we can’t help our schedule.
Lumino: How about the Chicago girls, you have enough time to check them out, don’t you?
Leetch: The girls are very nice, sometimes. Chicago girls -- so far so good.
Lumino: The critics love you guys and so do the fans, is fame hitting for you?
Leetch: (Laughs) We are not that famous. We are not as famous as Paris Hilton. We can walk down the street and not have fans coming up to us. Everyone knows our band’s name, but they don’t recognize us. Who wants to be famous anyway.
Lumino: So, if you had a little more time at Lollapalooza, what bands would you like to see?
Leetch: My Morning Jacket, the Raconteurs, Death Cab for Cutie for sure. But, to be honest, we have seen most of the bands here, so, we are not missing too much.
Lumino: Well, at least you have the chance to have some fun on stage.
Leetch: Yeah, it should be fun.
Lumino: What has been the Editors’ Chicago experience?
Leetch: We played here once before at the Metro. It was really nice. And we hung out with our friends, had a bit of a drink and hung out. But when we came in April it was raining a lot so it wasn’t ideal to go around. Today would have been nice, but there will be another time.
Lumino: When will Chicago get to see you again?
Leetch: We are working on another album starting in September, so when we come out to support it Chicago will get to see us. We will be looking forward to returning.
