When Sonic Youth first played the Lollapalooza circuit in 1995, they were the band of choice. There was no decision process for musicgoers as the already veteran rockstars were the buzz of the industry.

Now, 11 years later, the band has aged a bit but has retained many of the fans they have built over the last 25 years, in which they have released 20 amazing records.
On Saturday, the band proved that just as the perfect aged wine would taste, their music would sound. The youthful band rocked out hardcore in front of a packed audience – and a packed audience that ditched the highly anticipated Gnarls Barkley performance for a chance to hear a band that was part of Lollapalooza was the festival was just getting its bearings.
But no complaints arose from the Youth’s performance, as they marked yet another worthy return to Chicago, playing hits of the past and ballads from the new album “Rather Ripped.”
Age has done Sonic Youth well with guitar solos that could easily give the Chili Peppers a run for their money. In the end, a tasty performance entertained a packed crowd in from of the Bud Light Stage – the furthest north stage on the grounds – for the middle day of the third day festival. Perry Ferrell did well in bringing back the vets for another go around. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
