Consider it lucky timing or a curse of pseudo metal-heads: Queens of the Stone Age were one of the biggest and most anticipated bands on the lineup at Lollapalooza, and they were probably also with the most bandwagon fans in the audience.

Why? They went on a few minutes after 5:30 on Sunday, and were the last act on the main stage - and one of the last acts at the entire festival - before Red Hot Chili Peppers would top off a weekend of musical marvels.
QOTSA was loud the way metal should be, and thrashed out hits like “Little Sister,” “Go With the Flow” and “No One Knows” perfectly. The set they played represented their music well and kept the crowd's attention-still there wasn't a ton of movement or variety.
Most notable about the performance were the multiple appearances of Mark Lanegan, former Screaming Trees vocalist, who came out to sing on three tracks.
Amusing side note: One Queens fan said he was distracted by guitarist/singer Josh Homme's “resemblance to Craig Kilborn impersonating Elvis”.
An instrumental segment made some fans more gratuitous of the band for displaying all of its exceptional talents, while the absence of wailing during this portion lulled others to sleep.
I personally was too excited to see RHCP to devote all of my attention to Queens, but lucky for me, Budweiser kindly provided me with “beerphones” so that I could still rock out. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
