At the end of the Lollapalooza weekend, it seemed as if two hot categories were top of mind - theatrical performances and cover songs. For Panic! at the Disco, they made the most of their 2:30 p.m. Friday slot by presenting plenty of both, exciting the fairly large afternoon crowd that gathered to hear their compelling performance.

The set opened with clowns and scandalously dressed women introducing the red hot band as the MTV and radio happy musicians blasted solid many popular tunes including the MTV Video Music Awards nominated “I Write Sins Not Tragedies.” Sure, their theatrical performance could not equal that of the practiced Flaming Lips, but it was definitely worthy of a call from the promoters of Cirque du Soleil.
To create a little Lolla buzz, the band's used the help of a band that Chicago would have loved to see perform this year, Radiohead, by playing “Karma Police” and then later used some assistance from a Chicago-connected band by playing to near perfection the Smashing Pumpkins' “Tonight, Tonight.”
If buzz on Panic! At the Disco wasn't noticed before Lollapalooza, it sure is now. Many listeners were raving about the performance from the band's energy to their pure musical talent. Panic's Lolla performance definitely ranked them right at the top for best performances of the weekend. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
