The Secret's in the 'Sauce' Print E-mail

Nestled into Lincoln Park (across the street from the zoo entrance actually) is a swank joint known simply as, “Sauce.” Get your IDs checked at street level, and then take the stairs down to one of the best-kept secrets in the city. All the perks of a VIP club without the long lines and high prices give this “Sauce” enough spice to kick anybody’s ass.

ATMOSPHERE

For being mostly below street level, this place is surprisingly open and airy. The décor is complete swank with a modern twist; stainless steel and wood bars accompany huge overstuffed booths and high top tables. It’s dark, but that makes the lights on the dance floor seem that much brighter as most of the light is provided via candle at the tables. The first thing you’ll probably notice is the pounding beats coming from the DJ’s, those never let up either.

CROWD

Well what would you expect? It’s a club in Lincoln Park! This place is young, trendy, and ready to go. 21-30 seems to be the average age, lots of post college folks who haven’t quite settled down yet. An overall fun crowd, most people are just happy to find a club that you can get into, but beware the occasional snob! They’re everywhere though, so ignore them and enjoy the rest of the company. Besides the packs of soon to be hitched couples, there’s plenty of single meat in this package. Groups of single men and women seem to be very common here, making the hook-up-meter go off the scale.

ENTERTAINMENT / EVENTS

Well, aside from eye candy and the usually associated games thereof, there’s music and dancing. If that ain’t enough, or you’d rather watch the game, grab a cozy spot in front of one of Sauce’s huge plasma screens. Seriously though, the DJ’s are great here, spinning everything from club to house to hip-hop to funk and back. Check em out!

SPIRITS

Yeah they’ve got a big bar, so they’ve got pretty much anything you can think of. And Guess what else? The bartenders can actually recommend a good drink! Try the bartender’s signature drink; you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

GRUB

If you want to eat, go early, because you won’t be able to shake your ass if you fill up on the grub. Sauce has a better than average food menu, one that can even put some restaurants to shame. I enjoy the cracker crust pizzas myself; it’s a nice change of pace.

PRICES

Sure, you’ll need to hit the ATM before you go, but don’t expect to break your budget here. Very modestly priced without skimping on the quality. Beware though, parking is not easy to find, if the street is full you’re going to have to park in a garage, so factor that or a cab ride into your cost for the night.

WHY IT'S UNIQUE

Sauce seems to have figured out a simple formula, but added a twist to set themselves apart from the rest: Hot Bodies + Hot Beats + Cold Booze=FUN. Sauce has managed to do all that without coming off as snooty or exclusive. They actually want people to come in, imagine that! No velvet ropes, no bouncer with an ear piece, Sauce is a great spot to hit when you just don’t want to deal everything else involved in a night out.
