Jesse Littleton, now known as Gran Bel Fisher, has released his first album, entitled Full Moon Cigarette, under Hollywood Records. It’s difficult to put into words the ideas that this music evokes because the music itself is so defiant of categorization. It’s somewhat smoky but not because of the title.

Gran Bel Fisher’s slow, meandering pianistic skills paint a picture in my mind of a darkened room, fifty stories high and overlooking Lake Michigan, with the flickering lights of a nearby city glinting on the window glass, while his shadowy, low voice is reminiscent (at least per my ear) of Jim Morrison.
The songs “Full Cry,” a melancholy tune with introspective lyrics and purposeful rhythm, and “Edible,” a song that is at times both dark and light with simple yet poignant guitar lines that are reminiscent of The Cure, are some of the many highlights of the CD. The songs make me want to close my eyes and sink into the sounds coming from my stereo. Even “Moment,” something that is slightly close to pop but still far from it, makes me nod my head to its cuteness while it retains the flavor of the rest of the tracks.
Full Moon Cigarette is a CD that is well put together and I expect to hear a lot about it after its release, which was just released last month. My only fear is that it will end up being played too much. This is the kind of music that you need to hear only once to appreciate. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
