Sitting through two hours of Chicago’s rush hour traffic on a Friday can be a nightmare for anyone and can easily sway even the most obsessed music fan from venturing out to face it.

However, the pain staking drive through the southern suburbs was well worth the three hour concert the Goo Goo Dolls and Counting Crows put on at Tinley Park. I would head south to the burbs again any day for an encore of this amazing display of musical talent.

Being a die hard Counting Crows fan might make me a little biased, but I was enthralled in every song performed throughout the evening. I do however; have to remember that the Goo Goo Dolls gave an equally as entertaining performance.

As concert time approached the rain came and went and, as the Goo Goo Dolls took the stage a cheer went up from the wet and muddy crowd. The band preformed all the audience favorites –“Name”, “Slide”, “Iris”; the songs everyone knows the words to (even if, like me, you are not a huge Goo Goo Dolls fan). The words to the songs lit up the stage in bright colors; perfectly in sync with the lyrics that the group energetically belted out. The Goo Goo Dolls set off the concert with a fun, dynamic vibe and a quality set of songs; preparing the audience for what would continue to be a stellar concert.

Before Counting Crows took the stage the clouds rumbled overhead and just as Adam Duritz opened with Anna Begins the rain, quit appropriately, poured down as an ideal backdrop for a set of classic songs. I can honestly say there’s nothing better than watching the Counting Crows sing their assortment of melancholy favorites, “Anna Begins”, “Omaha”, “Long December”, with the timelessly upbeat “Mr. Jones” and “Hangin Around”, than as the rain pours down. A relaxed Adam Duritz, sporting his dreads and a “Where the Wild Things Are” t-shirt gave an outstanding performance that would make any fan quiver with excitement.

Although I think these two bands would have been great on their own; this two in one punch complimented each other nicely and were well worth the grinding turmoil that is Chicago traffic.

Adam duritz has to be the best singer in the world. Yes, he has an absetion of girls but thats his choice. Why do people care so much about his crazy hair dues, just give the poor guy a break! So, maybe his hair looks horrible short or he just likes his hair in brades. What if you had crazy hair that everyone hated! :cry
