I was there last weekend watching Roger Water’s and I froze my ass off but drinking cold beer was maybe a mistake. Regardless, it should be a great show on the stage and off. I expect this to be a great “people watching” show.
The following week The Glimmer Twins are back in town as the Rolling Stones play Soldier Field. I think it’s lame that the best opener they can come up with is Elvis Costello but what do I know. Regardless, dress warm and hope they are playing some of the songs that are currently on the set list such as “Monkey Man” and the underrated Keef song, “Little T&A”.
MTV2 is once again doing their $2 Bill shows and the actor cum rock star, Jared Leto, hit’s the Congress Theater with his band 30 Second’s to Mars towards the end of the month. Its $2 so how wrong can you go? But get them while you can if the crowd at Lollapalooza is any indication I suspect it will sell out pretty quick.
A few days before at the Congress Theater is The Killers. They are back with a new album and a new 70’s look. Not sure I dig the mustache Brandon but I guess you don’t need my approval. None the less, they are one of those bands still growing and are worth seeing live.
Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac is in town at the Park West at the end of the month playing a rare solo tour in support of his new CD, “Under The Skin”. His solo work has always been a mix bag and often over produced but he’s one talented guy and Fleetwood Mac would have been nothing with out his genius. So this might be a great opportunity to see this guy in an intimate setting.
Of course October is the month for Halloween and there are really just two options of shows on this scary night. First up is The Black Crowes at the Riviera Theater and this might be the trick of the treat. Their show this summer proved to be a long bloated jam session that ended in disappointment but you never know with these guys and the Riviera Theater is the best venue to see a show in the city.
The other option is the classy House of Blues with the Trail of Dead and the Blood Brothers. First off the names of the bands alone say it all for the evening and The Trail of Dead always deliver a high energy show and is my ticket for the evening.
On the CD front there’s a few good ones coming our way this the month. Much of the big CD’s are actually hitting the shelves today.
The Killers and Jet have their sophomore efforts being released today and they have already been both praised and panned by the critics. So judge for yourself or put in their first album and crank it up.
Beck is back with “The Information” and the packaging if not the 15 songs are very unique. First off the album comes with stickers and it’s up to you to create the design. Which must be a nightmare for the iTunes people I mean what do you give the consumer as album art? The album is produced by Nigel Godrich who produced his last few albums and is also the man behind Radiohead’s "Kid A" to name just a few.
Towards the middle of the month America is finally releasing Lady Sovereign’s “Public Warning”. The album is already out in the UK and she’s been touring extensively in the US preparing us for the hottest female MC to come around in a while.
At the end of the month The Who is set to release their first studio CD since 1982’s “It’s Hard”. “Endless Wire” has been a work in progress back when John Entwistle was still alive and it’s been a long road but you can never count out the genius of Pete Townshend. I’m not usre what to expect but if they have one song that comes close to “Eminence Front” then it will be worth the wait.

From The Suck Up Kiss Ass! Written by publisher on 2006-10-04 18:42:07 Please just let it out and tell me how you really feel. Hey I'm an old Crowes fan as well but I'm just not a big fan of the endless jam. If you dig that then great I just don't. If you don't like my opinion that's cool I'm happy we have readers that have their own thoughts. I hope you keep reading. |
