The son of a Scientologist brings his weirdness back again. This time in the form of "The Information" a slow grooving album that combines hip-hop and broken-folk with a hypnotist's chamber music.

"The Information"
(Interscope)
Released October 03, 2006
Beck is tired when he sings, this seems to be some sort of theme. He shares in the artistry by inspiring his consumers to create their own album covers with stickers to place on the blank spaces of his disk.

The tracks are all somehow cohesive, yet so Morphine-relaxed that they pass without causing too much change in the emotion of the listener. It continues in the same form as "Guero" containing subversive beats and quick wraps Beck spits in between short clips of strangers, and strange noises.

"Think I'm in love" is an ode to those going along for the romantic ride, and not really caring where it may drop them off. The landscapes in "Strange Apparition" are striking. A well written song in all respects, its soulful piano and emotional lyrics are "Freebird" reflective. "Nausea" is boring, and will continue to be overplayed. "New Round" is an extremely depressing lullaby with Beck on Beck vocals. Things start to really bend towards the bazaar at this point.

Echo-chamber Beck emerges with Harmonica in hand, and many extended electronic moans similar to deep ocean sonar on "We Dance Alone". As the title hints "1000 BPM" is up-tempo metal banging, drum dropping, strangeness that doesn’t last long enough. "Motorcade" has a wind-chime-on-the-front-porch-of-the-universe feel to it, and continues the sedated, calm of the music.

Then finally "The Horrible Fanfare Landslide Exoskeleton" appears as the last song on the album wrapping up this one-man freak-show with a few sounds collected from the beggining that jog the short-term memory.

Some rare guitar work seeps in and puts this album to bed along with the listener. In the context of such a diverse discology this music is less than stellar.
