Chicago Bears quarterback Rex Grossman might not have the golden boy aura of New England's Tom Brady, the eye-popping stats of Indianapolis' Peyton Manning or the MVP-caliber season of New Orleans' Drew Brees, but on Sunday he'll take the field as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

Really.

Among the final four quarterback playing this Sunday, Grossman has the lowest passer rating and the most interceptions. Yet like his fellow NFL quarterbacks, he's leading a team that's one win away from the Super Bowl. The biggest stage in all of professional sports.

After a season which produced roller-coaster results, the question still remains. Should Rex Grossman be trusted? This is the same Rex Grossman who had an abysmal 0.0 passer rating in the last game and casually admitted that he wasn't prepared because he considered the Packers game meaningless. The answer to that question is, yes.

It's not that I don't remember “Bad Rex” coming to take over “Good Rex” at times during this season, but what convinced me without a shadow of a doubt was his performance during last Sunday's playoff win over the defending NFC Champions, the Seattle Seahawks.

True, he didn't have a 129.8 passer rating or threw 5 touchdowns, but Grossman arrived when most of the pundits and fair-weather Bears fans pegged him for a colossal failure. What he lacked in efficiency he made up with stalwart determination and his ability to make the big play when it was absolutely necessary.

With a defense that's been playing mediocre for the last 5 weeks, Rex Grossman gives the Bears a better chance at going to the Super Bowl. He has the arm, the grit, the desire, and edge to not only propel this franchise to its first trip to the big dance in 21 years, but to prove his loudest and most harshest critics wrong.

He makes mistakes that all quarterbacks make, but his are like Armageddon. Tom Brady threw three interceptions against the San Diego Chargers, but Grossman's one INT against Seattle had pundits and fair-weather Bears fans examining his brain. I know Tom Brady has the rings but I do believe in journalism there's a little thing called “fairness.”

For years, Bears fans had to sit through a carnival of misery when it came to quarterbacks. Jonathan Quinn, Moses Moreno, Henry Burris, Craig Krentzel, Chad Hutchinson, and fan favorite, Kyle Orton. So yes, fans' suspicions are raised even higher when “Bad Rex” takes over “Good Rex.” But when I talk to and listen to vastly more intelligent Bears fans, they believe that Grossman presents a better chance for this franchise to do something special. Not just this year but for many years to come.

Grossman doesn't represent the old school Bears quarterback that fans are accustomed to. He's not a game manager who'll be a sidekick to a hall-of-fame running back. He's a real NFL quarterback with a real live NFL arm. Something this city has been lacking since the days when Sid Luckman took the field back when the NFL wasn't the colossus that it is now.

Since last Sunday's nail-biting win over Seattle, Grossman has developed a more business like approach when dealing with the media. He knows the heat is still on. And when he's back into the corner he rises to the occasion. We should be confident in his ability to perform well against the Saints, and leading the Bears to the Super Bowl.

I agree 100 percent. It is true that Rex isn't perfect, but he HAS come through when we needed him to, all but one game. Come on, the Bears are 13-3! He's amazing, and the Bears together work as an amazing team headed by an amazing coach. In Lovie we trust... don't forget.
