Rather than simply exiting retirement with crafty rhymes burned onto a soon-to-be multi-platinum album titled “Kingdom Come”, Jay-Z went for outrageous, pulling off a publicity stunt sure to make many music marketers jealous. Over the course of 17 hours, arguably the world’s top hip hop legend booked seven 30-minute concerts across the U.S., performing in Atlanta, Philly, D.C., NYC, Chi-Town, LA and Vegas, treating fans to both new school and old school Jigga Man.

For those Chicago hip hop fans lucky enough to score one of the golden tickets, a 30-minute early Christmas gift came directly from the legend, as along with his sidekick Memphis Bleek, Jay-Z wowed the crowd and closed by saying, “I’m feeling great. The only way I can do this is if I perform off the energy of the crowd. I don’t know if LA or Vegas will be able to top Chi-Town.”

The Riviera marked the perfect location for the hidden concert – even though the massive diverse line of Chicagoans waited patiently to enter the historic event. With the marquee simply stating “Cingular Sounds Live”, very few passer-bys could have had any idea such a big event was about to pump the music world inside. For Jay-Z to include Chicago on his tour was the smart thing to do – as Chicago’s Jay-Z fan base has helped launch the rapper’s career from wannabe rapper to superstar throughout his short career now extended by a return to the music world. After successfully introducing the crowd to “Kingdom Come” Jay-Z popped the question – “Should I come back to Chicago on tour?” to which the entire crowd screamed back “PLEASE”!

Surprisingly, a good handful of the hand selected crowd sand along to some of the Jigga Man’s new songs featured on “Kingdom Come”, set for release Tuesday (Nov. 21). “A few of you already downloaded the album,” he laughed. “Don’t worry about it, I’m OK with a little preview.”

With MTV’s Sway Emceeing and MTV’s camera crews capturing the crowd, the entertainment of the 30-minute set was nothing short of stellar, and with the artistic video display featuring an up-close and personal view of the Jigga Man rapping broadcasted as a backdrop, the night’s performance was enhanced and as close to perfection as one could expect for such a crazy tour schedule over the course of just one day.

When Jay-Z took his final bow with “Encore”, he left thanking Chicago for participating in his special experience, screaming “Peace and love Chi-Town, we love you.” And as the man of the hour strutted off stage, on way to LA and Vegas, the final two legs of his magical 17-hour Saturday, Chicago knew they had just experienced the perfect re-launch of the Jay-Z brand.
