Top 5 Places to get wings in Chicago Print E-mail

In this vast city of ours, there are many places one may go to get their fix of chicken wings. In fact, just about every local eatery and “drinkery” has its own offering of wings to choose from. This can make the waters a little murky when searching out the best. Here are my thoughts on the best the city has to offer; in no particular order.

Smoke Daddy
1804 W. Division St.
Chicago, IL 60622
(773) 772-MOJO
www.thesmokedaddy.com

This place was already one of my favorites for Barbecue and beer, but their wings are absolutely out of this world. Not your typical sauce drenched chicken bits; Smoke Daddy stays true to its style by Rubbing and smoking their wings, then serving them up with their very own hot sauce and some damn good ranch dressing. I must also mention they don’t serve up wing parts, no digging for the “drumettes” here; you get the entirety of the wing for your munching pleasure.

Lions Head Pub
2251 N. Lincoln Ave.
(773) 348-5100
www.lionheadpub.net

This joint is just giving them away! It’s true; every Friday from 4-7pm the Lion’s Head has a free wing buffet featuring BBQ, Buffalo, Teriyaki, and Garlic/Parmesan. The wings are tasty and probably more familiar looking to the average wing-eater, but you can’t beat free. They are complimented nicely by their other Friday specials; $2 Pabst, Old Style Bottles & Drafts, and $1 Fried Twinkies. Other than the free ones, they normally run $5.99 for 1 Lb. or 10.99 for 2 Lb. of the good stuff.

Innjoy
2051 W. Division St.
(773) 394-2066

Down on Division Street there’s a swanky little place called Innjoy. It’s lounge-like vibe and tunes pumping from the DJ booth might dissuade most loyal wing lovers from even entering. Yet, this place is turning out some of the best wings around, available in a multitude of flavors. Brought to you on darling little platters, instead of the trough most wing aficionados are comfortable with, the flavor speaks for itself. Go on Mondays for 25 cent wings (minimum six), $2.50 Miller High Life, MGD and Miller Lite bottles.

Yak-Zies
506 W. Diversey Parkway
(773) 327-1717
3710 N. Clark
(773) 525-9200

Open late (4am) and serving up the hot stuff until 3am, there is no better place to visit for your late night chicken fix. A huge and loyal crowd drinkers and eaters visit this place on the weekends and can sometimes make it a little difficult to find a table, but ultimately it is worth a little pushing and shoving to stake out a little place to dive into their spicy little pieces of heaven. While tasty when sober, they are destined to be the best thing you’ve ever had while really really drunk at about 2 a.m.

Harold’s Chicken Shack

Of all of the places on this list, Harold’s might be the most famous…or infamous depending on who you are. Coming to you through rotating bullet proof glass, Harold’s wings are hand-battered and deep fried to perfection and tossed with your choice of hot or mild sauce to complete the heartburn effect. The piece of white bread at the bottom and the little container of cole slaw are perfect compliments to these down home fried chicken wings.

HONORABLE MENTION

Buffalo Joe’s
1841 W. Howard St.
812 Clark St.
Evanston

Small Bar Logan Square
2956 N. Albany Ave.
(773) 509-9888

i'm originally from buffalo, and for my money, the Rail on Damen Ave. has the most authentic wings in town (that i've tried thus far, and i've tried many). and they're 10 cents on mondays. it's become a tradition; even the horrible service is forgiven in light of the wonderful, life-saving goodness of chicken wings...

thanks for the lion's head tip. will check out.

I ordered Innjoy's wings because of this post. The wings were not good at all (pretty small and rather dry) , and they totally botched our order despite there being no crowd in there. Shoulda triend Smoke Daddy's instead, I'd NEVER recommend this place. :x
