Patrick would be perfect to win the race and give the sport a much-needed image boost. Even if she doesn’t win, her presence and looks have helped market the event wonderfully.
I was listening to the "Dan Patrick Show" on ESPN radio on my drive to Indy when I heard his poll question asking what sports fans planned to do with their weekend. Unfortunately, the majority said the Indy 500 was the 11th thing on their top 10 list.
Sad, my friends. I can bet you will be watching when Danica Patrick surprises the world with a victory, which seems even more of a possibility since on Friday she set the pace during Carburetion Day with a 225.597-mph lap.
Also on Friday, Tom Carnegie, the legendary public address announcer for Indianapolis Motor Speedway, confirmed he will announce yet another memorable day. The 85-year-old star made a trip to Methodist Hospital on Thursday, but was given clearance to continue his legacy.
Carnegie and speed racers aren’t the only celebrities roaming the streets of Indy. There are plenty of musicians and actors taking in the beauty of the city.
The Black Crowes were in town to entertain fans with a Carb Day concert, and Chester Bennington, lead singer of Linkin Park, has been seen all over the town.
And we can’t forget Grand Marshal Reggie Miller, who will receive the most celebrity praise. The now former Indiana Pacer will set the pace Sunday, an emotionally high event I am certainly glad I will witness.
