Nothing could have prepped me for the excitement that vibrated through my body at the 2005 Indy 500 – my first Indy car event ever.
I heard the stories and watched a dozen or so on TV, but I had no idea what I was in for.
In fact, as the race began and throughout the first three laps, my excitement was uncontrollable. A tear even trickled down my cheek. This was frickin’ great! The day could have been a tad soggy, if I had listened to the weather man, but luckily, Mother Nature left the skies blue and the temperature warm. The perfect weather was capped by such an explosive race – literally.Sitting in turn two allowed me to see all but two of the accidents throughout the race. It sounds sick to get pumped over accidents, but I was. Maybe it’s the redneck in me (or, um, all around the track). I could have sworn we were at a hockey game and the gloves just came off the way the crowd seemed to get excited over these crashes. And then, the final 20 laps were amazing. The rookie hottie, Danica Patrick had the lead, but lost it in the final five, paving the way for Dan Wheldon to take the checkered flag and down the traditional milk. I’m not going to grow a mullet, or a mustache, but I now say I completely understand why rednecks love this sport oh so much. It’s freakin’ awesome. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
