Five Questions with Nice Peter Print E-mail
Written by ANDY ARGYRAKIS
Wednesday, 06 December 2006
Spend a minute, even a second with Nice Peter’s Pete Shukoff and its obvious he’s a jokester with a sardonic sense of humor. But the lead singer (and waiter) can still play some pretty mean acoustic guitar licks and craft insanely catchy tunes, with a comedic bent of course. Before starting the group with Kristen Regester, Shukoff was trained at the famed Improv Olympic in Chicago, so it’s not all that uncommon for the troubadour to inject a little stand-up into the act.

And come Lumino’s Yuletide bash, he’ll have the chance to strut both of those styles simultaneously a la Tenacious D (minus the hit or miss odds of Jack Black), along with a shot of seasonal spirit.

What is the band’s connection to Chicago?

We buy our groceries here.

Describe your sound and name?

We’re called Nice Peter. We sound like Penn and Teller with a guitar and drums.

What can we expect from your live show?

Nothing. Expectations always lead to disappointments. We're a fucking awesome band and we play fucking awesome songs, but our live show is lackluster and ho-hum.

What is your favorite Chicago venue?

The Weiner's Circle late at night, singing songs about a free medium Pepsi and getting one.

Where do you hope to take the band in the future?

Back to England, back to Germany, and never, ever again to Green Bay.

• Doors open at 6 pm. Tickets available online at www.AbbeyPub.com or at the door.
