What is the band’s connection to Chicago?
A couple of us were born in Chicago, but we all grew up in Crown Point, IN, right across the border in Lake County. We've all been to countless shows in and around the Chicagoland area, but this is our band's first show in the city. It's hard explaining to everyone not from Northwest Indiana that we don't consider Indy our capitol, mainly for the fact that we grew up on everything Chicago and downtown is only 45 minutes from us, and Indy is about 2 1/2 hours. But I am to tired of that subject, so I'll have to say because they are home to a certain team which has carved out a special place in the pantheon of professional football greats. That team which is known the world over as.........DA BEARS.
Describe your sound and name?
Well we all listen to different types of music, so they are too many influences to name. We consider ourselves a rock band, but you can detect different genres in almost every song we play. All in all, it is like a glowing orb of rock that pulsates waves of delight into every ear within speaker range. And as far as the name is concerned, we had many a debate over what it was going to be. One of us, who shall remain nameless, wanted it to be "Dumpster Baby", but since screamo isn't really our thing, we went with Five Minutes In. Many people have come up with their own ideas, but we like to keep the answer to ourselves and let everyone else create their own meaning behind it.
What can we expect from your live show?
Although it has probably been said by every band to ever do an interview, I'd have to say "a lot of energy". We usually play four hour sets, so once the crowd seems like they've had enough boozy treats we play stuff they can dance to, but we can play a wide variety of tunes so it's hard to pinpoint what you'll hear. We all love to play live, so in our experience it really doesn't depend on what type of crowd is there, because no matter where we play, no matter how pumped/jaded they are, we bring the same noise. The only complaints we've had have been from drunk strangers who get mad because we won't let them sing/play during our set breaks, so in our eyes we're doing pretty good.
What is your favorite Chicago venue?
This is our first show in Chicago, so we'd have to say the Abbey Pub is all types of kick ass. There are a lot of venues we want to play at, but this is our first foot in the door. It's going to be rough though, for this is the first show where we don't have an open bar, so we'll see how it goes.
Where do you hope to take the band in the future?
Having more time to create; we all have to work day jobs to live off of, and our schedules don't exactly harmonize the way our music does. As with any band climbing their way up, we all envision being able to live off of the money from our shows and play every single day, but that simply isn't reality right now. But we plan on having an 8-10 song CD done by summer, so once we finish that we'll be well on our way. But truthfully, as the new year dawns we all plan on winning four seperate Powerballs and buying a studio and venue in every major city so we can rule the American rock scene.
