Dine is a hotel restaurant, (or co-located with the hotel at the very least) which can be the kiss of death with low-quality food, service, and atmosphere. Dine is at the opposite end of the spectrum. This is an upscale dining experience with a retro-styled bar area and comfortable, low-lighting table and booth area. The décor is a combination of tasteful modern and deco-retro.

CROWD

Dine's crowd is a combination of hotel guests, business people, and those looking for a classy alternative to downtown bistros and pub grub. The help is friendly, and there wasn't a crowd yet at 7:30 on a Friday night. After 8:30 you may be taking your chances, best to make reservations if you plan on dining later in the evening.

SPIRITS

Dine has a wonderful selection of single malt scotches, a competent mixed drinks list, and the wine list starts at mid-price and works up from there. If you desire a quality-but-affordable glass of Napa Valley merlot, you're in the right place, but you can also splurge on a full bottle at about $45 dollars and higher.

FOOD

For starters, try the cream of asparagus soup, or a bowl of mussels-n-clams. These were listed on the menu as being prepared with chorizo and you'll be pleasantly surprised to encounter the combination of tastes. The slippery texture of the seafood was counterbalanced by the meaty chorizo. Bravo.

The entrees make a tough call. An Amish chicken dish and grilled Atlantic salmon are very tempting, but the roasted pork tenderloin with sides of rutabaga and barley/black truffle risotto is divine. Another tasty choice is the Australian lamb with roasted acorn squash.

The food is portioned fairly deceptively - in a good way. The plates seem on the smallish side until well into the meal, and only then does it sink in how filling these excellent dishes actually are. The pork tenderloin had just the right amount of juiciness alongside the risotto and the rutabaga. The sides are well seasoned, and while in lesser kitchens a rutabaga dish might be overdone and too mushy, at Dine they were firm with a medley of sweetness and mild savory flavor.

The Australian lamb is another good selection, with an herbed outer layer giving way to meat with a tasty pomegranate-infused juice. The bulk of some people's lamb experience may be limited to curries and Mediterranean dishes; you may be taken by surprise when asked at what temperature you want your lamb cooked. Try the steak equivalent of "medium."

PRICES

This is a mid-price to upscale restaurant. Dinner for two plus a glass of wine each and dessert was over $120, but the food is definitely worth the expense. If you want the quality that this price tag should bring, Dine is a good bet.

WHY IT'S UNIQUE

All around, Dine is a very enjoyable experience; the help is attentive and accessible. You can enjoy this upscale restaurant without feeling like you are out of your element for not knowing a simple thing such as what temperature to have your lamb cooked at. Final verdict? This would be an excellent romantic atmosphere, especially for those looking for something away from the crowds of Rush Street.
