After Chicago cheated us from having Radiohead outside in beautiful Grant Park this year, they instead opted for the equally beautiful Auditorium Theater to play two sold out nights.

Even though tickets disappeared within minutes of going on sale, fans still tried to score them by going to Craigslist or even to e-bay only to encounter obscene tickets prices. Others even tried desperately to get a ticket a few hours before the concert and could be seen walking around with one finger in the air hoping for a miracle. One fan in particular was standing by the wall holding a sign stating, “I drove 12 hrs, please help a fan”. Meanwhile, inside, the show was about to begin.

The Auditorium Theater at Roosevelt University is the architectural gem by Sullivan and Adler which is internationally acclaimed for its originality, overwhelming ornamentation and its perfect acoustics. The audience was bursting with expectation and the band was off to a terrific start as they opened with “Airbag” followed by “2+2=5”, which happened almost like an explosion. What could sound better than the powerful chorus of “you have not been paying attention” in the flawless acoustics of the Chicago Auditorium?

In addition to performing a different set list every night, the band also appears to be making a clear and calculated effort to select between old and new tunes, with the old ones almost equally balanced from each album. The band performed a satisfying share of their classics, which the crowd willingly and passionately sang along as Thom Yorke continued to use his free form almost spastic dancing skills to charm the audience.

The 2006 tour is also being used as a practice ground to preview several new songs rumored to be included on their next album. Thom playing a diverse set of instruments from drums in “Bangers’n Mash”, tambourine in “Down in the New Up”, and piano in the new ballads “Nude” and “I Want None of This” really showed the crowd what he was made of tonight. Also included in tonight’s set is the rarely played “Arpeggi” and the beautiful goodbye song, “Videotape”. Tonight’s audience also expereinced the recently premiered new tune “All I need”, introduced by Thom as “we sketched it out earlier and we might get it wrong”. Needless to say they didn’t get it wrong.

After playing "Everything in its Right Place", the band leaves the stage leaving behind a recorded Thom singing in the background, as an excited audience vigorously pound their feet anxiously waiting for their return which will be the first of two encores. Next up is arguably the highlights with "My Iron Lung", "The Bends", "Myxomatosis" and a mind blowing acoustic version of "How to Disappear Completely".

After 2 hours and an array of 23 new and old tunes, it was clearly a remarkable evening for everyone in the audience that all left feeling "lucky".
