First up, Chuck D is pouncing on the House of Blues with the rest of Public Enemy, bringing the noise and bringing their own take of political rapping that has won them friends and enemies since the '80s.
If that’s not your taste then sashay your ass over to the Riviera Theater the following night for the gender blending fun of the Scissor Sisters that gay or straight can enjoy…much like the Berlin nightclub on Belmont.
Speaking of dancing, the man committed to bringing sexy back is at the Allstate Arena and this time bringing Pink along for the ride. Expect a lot of screaming fans of all ages and a lot of great dance moves. Love Justin or hate him, the guy does knows how to dance.
Of course if you are more about the metal - and you know who you are - then your best bet is to head for the Aragon Ballroom for the annual appearance of Taste of Chaos. This year has 30 Seconds of Mars, Aiden, The Used to name just a few.
Another annual metal tour is the Jagermeister Tour that takes over the House of Blues at the end of the month and features Lacuna Coil, Shadows Fall and Stone Sour among groups determined to give you whiplash and hearing loss.
And to take a completely different direction, you could spend an evening at the Double Door with the a bunch of guys from Denmark and their band simply known as Mew.
On the CD front we have a lot of anticipated albums heading our way with many of them hitting the stores today.
First up is Montreal’s own Arcade Fire bursting back on the scene with their sophomoric release, “Neon Bible”. I can’t remember for sure how many people are in this band but let’s just say it’s a lot and it’s equal to the full sound that comes out of them. I can’t wait to see them live when they come around this summer. Check out Lumino's comic strip review here.
Another big one to look out for is the first album by The Stooges since 1973’s "Raw Power." It’s hard to believe it’s been that long, but Iggy and the Asheton Brothers are back for another go. I’m hearing a lot of mixed reviews, but they made it here in Chicago and anyone that saw them live in the last few years knows they still have the energy and the attitude. So perhaps take a chance and judge for yourself.
If rap is your thing, this month has several options to shake your bling at. First up is Young Buck on the 20th and then the following week Chamillionaire and Fabulous both drop CDs.
If you are in a more soulful mood maybe try the new Joss Stone album. Joss has said, “this album is the first one that I feel truly represents who I am as an artist.” Early reviews emphasize her soulful vocals but mention the album adds a little more up-tempo funk to her sound as well. Sounds like a good combination.
Last but not least, you have Uber-Producer Timbaland releasing Shock Value to the world. Expect big names on this album including Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z and of course Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake on the first single, “Give it to Me”.
Well there you have it - and that’s only a small sampling of what March is bringing us. So check our weekly calendars for other shows and head to your favorite local music store to pick up the new releases.
