Dim lighting and acoustic tones filled Joes Sports Bar as local Stellar Road took the stage in an effort to give new meaning to the phrase -taking back Sunday. With less than favorable weather out the bands loyal fans showed up to the all ages show in full force to support. Perhaps one of the biggest turnouts on a lazy Sunday afternoon in a while, the show also included everything from a guitar raffle to an open buffet. The

The idea behind the day was to keep it very low-key and give back to those who have supported the band. Say singer Jack Daly, “…We’re going to tone it down today”.

The band was brought out on this afternoon to raise money in support of Katie, an athlete and Good Samaritan. Katie will be running a triathlon in efforts to help find a cure for cancer. With no idea on how she might raise the fiscal requirements for training, Katie made a call to Stellar Road who leapt at the chance to give back to the community. “They are just so humble. You can’t deny the talent of the band, but it’s their lyrics and personalities that keep me coming to shows,” Vicki Guerara Stellas Road fan proclaimed.

With only three members present, the all-acoustic show brought down the house. Even while slouched on couches and taking “breaks” the music from their album, Better Than Yesterday, still proves to strike a chord within the audience. “It’s the music you could chill out in your room to, or just as easily dance,” says Erin Jacobson, long time Stellar Road Fan.

And it’s true! I’ve always found the way to see if a band is really good is if you find yourself playing a little air guitar. Let’s just say for about three songs I must have thought I was Jimmy Hendrix! The mix of blues themes and smooth lyrics are enough to make anyone enjoy him or herself?

With a great atmosphere of people and music, its no wonder the band has such a loyal following. If only for a moment Stellar Road squashed the divide of parent and child, friend or foe and there were instead just fans of great music. From children twirling in front of the stage, to lighters swaying with each rhythmic measure, Stellar Road proves there is still power in music, and a little in each of us to help change the world, one triathlon at a time.
