ATMOSPHERE
Occupying the former space of the ill-fated “Romeo Romeo” (a short lived Italian café) Sweet Alice still holds onto some of the remnants of that space as well as it’s own past. On the walls you’ll find remnants (and all together interesting pieces) of the Bar’s past. The hand crafted phone booth, the painted Marlin, and the awning from Ten56 just to name some of them. Comfortable seating and tables are spread around the room which is centered on big folding doors that open when the weather is nice. The vibe over all is rock, but with a laid back attitude.
CROWD
Sweet Alice has established her regulars quickly, but you’ll find many a wanderer popping in to see what this is about. Sweet Alice reflects the eclectic mix of people in the neighborhood where she lives, so expect to fit right in.
ENTERTAINMENT
While there isn’t live music, you get the sense that the bar wouldn’t want to do it half assed, so thank GOD they have a kick ass jukebox and you can often catch movies, concerts, or even cartoons on the big ass TV behind the bar (framed to look like a mirror). Music is generally rock/alternative/classic/punk, but it does vary from time to time.
SPIRITS
Magnificent! What a great mix of beverages to imbibe. Sweet Alice has everything from “Top Shelf” liquor to PBR on tap. They make some killer cocktails but still have cheap shots of whiskey. Keep an eye on the specials to save some dough, because they have some bad-ass drink specials.
GRUB
At first glance, it all may seem like wicker park’s standard fling on pub fare. Burgers, Chicken tenders, Fries, and some salads thrown in to pacify the trixies. However, this stuff is really really good. I love the waffle fries, in a bit of an impure way I might add.
PRICES
Ok, so you’re not going to enter with a five dollar bill and leave with change, but you could. Food is at the low end of average, but most everything is big enough to share or take some home. Drinks vary in cost by night, but on the whole are pretty damn cheap. It’s enough to make you want to come back again and again.
WHY IT'S UNIQUE
Sweet Alice is a fantastic Bar with some of the most amiable employees I’ve encountered in quite some time. It’s laid-back rock 'n' roll vibe is plenty enough to make you feel cool while you wax philosophic over a beer or six. A great place to go if you actually like being social at a bar.
