Although "Disturbia" may someday find itself piled underneath a large
stack of banal teen thrillers, it certainly did prove to be quite the
entertaining rollercoaster.

The film begins with main character, Kale
(Shia LaBeouf), being sentenced to three months of house arrest. Kale
is a troubled teenager, plagued with a problematic background and
haunted by the memory of his deceased father. He is suddenly forced
to occupy his three summer months with impractical activities,
consisting of everything from building a tower of Twinkies to
watchfully spying on his neighbors' every move. The plot thickens when
he befriends his new neighbor Ashley (Sarah Roemer), who happens to be
an alluring female whose appearance entices and magnetizes Kale.
Together, they find themselves occupying their indoor experience with
a pair of binoculars, snooping on neighbors, only soon to discover
that a neighbor is a potential killer. It is here that the story
builds into an invigorating thriller.
What "Disturbia" lacked in complexity is made up for in its intensity
and ability of build suspense. These elements were thoroughly
showcased during the rickety scenes involving potential murderer Mr.
Turner (David Morse) and Kale. Although the plot contained very little
surprises, it was still well paced and littered with horror-felt
scenes that left the audience with pounding hearts and sweaty palms.
The highlight of "Disturbia" was the acting done by LaBeoff. LaBeoff
finds himself edging more and more into the spotlight with this first
rate teen thriller. His role in "Disturbia" is not comparable to
previous roles, such as in "Bobby," but it proved to be a building
block towards a promising future. While "Disturbia" may not be the
most original pick of the stack, it still leads its viewers on an
entertainment, thrill-filled adventure that they are sure to not
forget. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
