Stone Lotus Blooms into sophisticated fun Print E-mail

It’s hard to believe after you step outside of your cab, that this lounge has anything to offer; placed next to a car wash and some empty lots, one would immediately question their decision to come to such a place. I suppose that is exactly what the owners of Stone Lotus had in mind, a kind of diamond in the rough strategy or what would later come about as a lotus in the stone, hence Stone Lotus.

ATMOSPHERE

Stone Lotus claim‘s the bragging rights as Chicago’s high-end “liquor spa.” The owners and staff take great pride in making the experience of sophisticated elegance meets party people, happen each night. Both upper and lower bars are designed to invoke thoughts of relaxation and provide a state of tranquility. The warm and dark color combination of the upstairs bar is accented by a must see, wall of water extending the entire length of the bar. It’s truly an experience to sip a drink and gaze at the beautifully illuminated stone wall with water gently cascading just behind lounge patrons. The lower bar is also thoughtfully constructed, once again combining warmth and wood; this time throwing a few surprises in like a stone wall and a gorgeous bar backdrop of lotus blossoms that are sure to catch your eye and drop your jaw.

CROWD

This lounge is made for those that like to sit back and relax in one room and party it up at a moments notice in another room. Lounge patrons looked to be in their mid twenties and thirties, dressed in typical Chicago high fashion and making it a point to look good and have fun. This trendy lounge attracts the more sophisticated party crowd.

ENTERTAINMENT / EVENTS

Waterwall Tuesdays are sure to make a splash at Stone Lotus with complimentary cocktails from 9-10. Thursday evenings get a little funkier with a 9-10 complimentary reception and half price bottles of Champagne and $7 Martinis are served all night long.

SPIRITS

It would be wrong to say that this lounge did not live up to its “liquor spa” status. The featured drinks on the menu offered a wide variety of options that are sure to appeal to both sophisticated tastes and those just looking to try something different, refreshing and light. I tried three of the many specialty drinks listed and was wowed by each, particularly the Montra. This martini was not only surprising but incredibly refreshing; the lime, mint and cucumber were an amazing combination and certainly fit the profile of what a spa would serve its guests. Another fantastic drink to try if you are looking for a little sweet and sour combination is Stone Lotus’s grown up version of lemonade, the Lotusade.

GRUB

It’s hard to make eating a burger sexy, even when you are holding a martini glass, but some how, Stone Lotus serves up bite sized portions that pair thoughtfully with their drinks. As several plates began to arrive for the tasting, patrons began to look longingly at our table; you could almost see interest peak and mouths begin to water. I won’t even try to pick a favorite finger food, but I will say that the Frites are more than addictive. There is nothing mini about the mini burgers, the cider chicken skewers are sticky but worth licking your fingers for and the stuffed mushroom caps were creamy and decadent but definitely not enough for a hungry guy.

PRICES

As always, if your bank is showing a negative, this is certainly not the place to bring your piggy bank and hammer. With an upscale environment complete with signature drinks and flavorful finger foods, the prices are competitive with other night clubs of this caliber. The food is very reasonably priced and the signature drink prices reflect the “top shelf” liquor used to make them.

WHY IT'S UNIQUE

Beyond the beautifully decorated interior it seems that there is a story to just about everything. When you stop by, be sure to check out the under booth storage that is available to place purses and jackets while you dance and drink the night away. With thoughtful details like that, why not check out Stone Lotus?
