This weekend the best place to be, is perhaps the most obvious. The Windy City yet again chaperones a 4 day bash for the music it "electrified". Yes I'm talking about the Chicago Blues Festival and there's no better place to soak it all in than Chicago's own Lakeshore in the heart of Grant Park.

24th Annual Chicago Blues Festival
June 7-10, 2007
Grant Park
Chicago, IL
Chicago Blues Festival
For almost a quarter century, Chicago has hosted an homage to the most uniquely American art form, the blues. Today, Chicago opens up the largest free outdoor concert in the world for the 24th time with opening night headliner, the legendary Koko Taylor performing at 8:30 in the Petrillo Band Shell. What’s sure to be a “Wang Dang Doodle” of a time, is peppered with Blues Legends as well as modern day favorites.

This year, with the festival falling on the 10th of June, the festival will be celebrating what would be Howlin’ Wolf’s 97th birthday. If there ever was something so uniquely Chicago, this festival is it! Food, Sun, and Damn fine tunes on the lakeshore, all to celebrate the music that calls Chicago home.

They say that the blues was “Born in the Delta and raised in Chicago”, referring to the rise of electric blues here in the windy city, so go celebrate the music that gave Robert Johnson, Lonnie Brooks, Buddy Guy, Howlin'Wolf, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, and yes, even the Blues Brothers, a "sweet home" in Chicago.

For more information on the Blues Fest and other up coming Chicago festivals please visit the Mayor's Office of Special Events website.
