ATMOSPHERE
Hear a name like evilOlive and thoughts swing to ‘classed’ up spaces filled with the crisp din of conversation and clinking glasses. Step foot inside and you realize that those thoughts aren’t too far off. Giant booths take up a good portion of the real estate on the first level providing ample space for your rabble. The walls are rather barren save for sharp colors sprinkled with palindrome interludes. Meanwhile on weekends a DJ is perched overlooking the crowd providing an eclectic stream of thriving beats.
CROWD
Walk in here in jeans and a t-shirt and you won’t feel entirely out of place, but you may feel a little underdressed. The guys sport business casual on up and the dames are dolled up for a night out. As you go late into the evening the throngs vary the mix between chilled sippers of the martini, late night party people and a sprinkling of sloppy drunks.
ENTERTAINMENT / EVENTS
A pool table is perched on the top level and barring large crowds remains playable into the early morning hours. A DJ spins in menacingly lit isolation while open floor space is taken to by hypnotized dancers. Look up to the half dozen or so TV’s suspended around the bars (there are two bars to keep things moving when it’s busy) and you’re sure to catch a cult classic playing.
SPIRITS
Martinis are the in forefront here with an assortment of olive garnish to choose. Look over the drink menu and it is more of a test in palindromes than familiar names. Not in the mood to sort through oddly named unfamiliar fare? Grab a barkeep, rattle off your favorite ‘shootable’ or have them make their specialty. Toss in a solid cross-section of beers and you have yourself many roads to that perfect late night drunk.
GRUB
Food? Uh, I’ve heard they have quite the selection of olives…
PRICES
Don’t expect any deals on the weekends, though Sunday through Thursday offers up some specials worth checking out. Overall it is on par with the rest of the Division corridor. Here’s some help though, evilOlive is steps from the Division Blue Line station, which could save on costly cab fare.
WHY IT'S UNIQUE
Late night drinking comes in many forms. At its worst it’s a disheveled drunken mass near passed out at the bar. evilOlive neatly avoids such a scene offering up a spot for revelries to push well into the morning light. Last call at 4:30 am, need I say more?

Poor Service

While the decor may have been nice, the EvilOlive staff certainly brought down the atmosphere of the bar. For a bar that was obviously struggling (a grand total of 60 customers on a Saturday night) one would assume the staff would be exceptionally nice as to not drive away their few loyal customers.
WRONG. I found Evilolive to be filled with dreadful service all the way from the doorman to the bartender. Slow, inconsiderate, and overall rude. I think the true low point of my experience may have been when a bouncer refused let two customers into the "party room" without paying $30 for the final 20 minutes of the special. ON A SLOW NIGHT! Wake up EvilOlive you are losing business with your careless customer service!

I am in no way involved with this, but perhaps it is you placing yourself into this predicament...Demanding special service? Perhaps EvilOlive is simply upholding the integrity of it's product by not allowing you in for 20 minutes at a discounted price, when the limiting factor is quality not time. Maybe if you were not seeking more than what was offered or available, you'd have a better time. |
