Joined by Matt Johnson (formerly of Boom Bip) on drums, Buck crafted the new Ordinary Ghosts at the Funeral Home in his old stomping grounds of Louisville, Kentucky, also home to the similarly atmospheric Slint.
The album, which sports Buck’s own haunted cover art, is ethereal, even as it brims with new millennium tension. Human frailty, dark imagery involving water, falling and sleep and meditative repetition all inform the lyrical content, while the cuts “A Million Lives,” “The Killing Fields,” “The Nothing Place” and “Sedation” recall the 21st century anxiety of Radiohead. The standout track “Harrison Bergeron” soundtracks the dystopian science fiction of Kurt Vonnegut’s name-checked short story.
People Noise presents a creative departure for Buck and Ordinary Ghosts is an otherworldly first effort. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
