OK Go is still rocking out to the success of its treadmill running video from “Here It Goes Again”, however, in Chicago – it seems as if The Fray have taken over now and have more of a fan following than the native group.

Chicago's summer music scene used to be limited -- especially with the only true Chicago summer venues including Tinley Park and the spaceship also known as Solider Field -- for many years. But now with Northerly quickly gaining steam as a beautiful outdoor venue, Chicago is providing a mid level outdoor venue for bigger bands to rock out to.

For years, The Fray have made a point of dominating Chicago's small venue circuit, and have now officially transitioned to the big stage, as they, along with the Chicago boys, pulled a sold out crowd to Northerly Island for three consecutive nights -- and perfect nights I might add.

OK Go has always been known to provide its fans -- especially in Chicago -- with incredible shows, and always makes a point of playing one of my favorites, "Million Ways." I would have been completely satisfied seeing them and Mae perform the three hour gig. Add in The Fray, and you have a masterpiece musical trio. Genius.

As for The Fray, the first surprise to many casual fans was that the piano player (Isaac Slade) wasn't the only singer of the band. In fact, the Denver-based band's lead vocals were shared by two guys, with the second being guitarist Joe King (no joke).

The Fray of course performed its standard songs "Over My Head," "How to Save a Life," and "Little House," while praising the city they "absolutely love. It's a home away from home for us," Slade said, while the Chicago skyline glistened in the background. The Fray also wowed the crowd by showcasing their musical talent by venturing into a great song -- "Hips Don't Lie" by Shakira -- which ultimately was, well fantastic.

The Fray and OK Go both have difficult roads ahead as both will soon jump back into the studio and try to dish out a song to keep them at the top of venue booking lists and at the top of the album charts. Both experienced high levels of success within the last year, so, the pressure is now officially on. But if both bands can create music, their live performance skills are set solid.
