Now this was my kind of show – blood pumping, ear shaking, hard, good music featuring a perfect blend of punk-rock and folk, and all from a band that wasn’t a rookie band and a band that definitely deserved a premiere spot atop the Citi Stage.

With 10 years of experience, spanning a career that has included such albums as “Reinventing Axl Rose”, “As the Eternal Cowboy”, and “Searchng for a Former Clarity” – an album that reached No. 9 on Billboard’s Top Independent Albums Chart – these Gainesville, FL rockers dominated the stage.
Crowd interaction is also very important at Lollapalooza shows, especially when the bands are trying to build a solid connection on the smaller stage. These guys understood this. They understood the importance of marketability, and with 10 years in the bag, they didn’t have to, but checked their egos at the door.
While I wasn’t too fond of the lineup on Friday, the opening day of Chicago’s now third annual music festival, I was very excited to see Against Me! And just as I expected, the entertainment was solid throughout the duration of their set. With them now on ire Records (since 2005), I fully expect more great music to eco out of their production studios in the near future and continue to catch fire with the indie and college crowds.
These guys rocked. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
