Cock rock is usually reserved for the male species, leave it to the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s to prove them wrong. Lead singer Karen O exudes a presence on stage reminiscent of early Iggy Pop or Ozzy Osborne, it is impossible to look away. Karen’s tight leather outfit that she wore at today’s show took out that option entirely.

Watching the Yeah Yeah Yeahs play is as much a stage show as a rock event. The band uses everything from tin foil to whips as Karen struts her stuff on stage growling and posing for the audience. Do not get the impression that this is the Pussy Cat Dolls, Karen O could beat up the Pussy Cat Dolls without even trying. She is the punk rock poster child for every rebel girl in America lucky enough to have heard of her.

It is hard not to imagine Karen O as a female version of Axel Rose, all of her songs burst with energy and raw emotion. In studio much of her lyrics are sung too loud to fully understand, such is not the case live. In concert every lyric is sung with perfect precision and gets drilled into the mind of every person in the audience.

Though the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are typically cast a female geared rock band the audience at today’s showed turned out to be more guys then girls. Maybe it was just the joy of seeing Karen O perform but the energy among every man, woman and child got turned up for the hour she was on stage. There was not a band that rocked as much or as loud as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs during today’s lineup and any that tried were quickly put to rest.

Despite all that the band played a much mellower show then their albums suggest. It was not until about the halfway point of the performance that Karen really let loose asking everyone if they had their “Summer lovin” yet. It appeared as if the band had just found their true groove by the time their set had ended, even though they had played a face melting show.
