Just two hours before his Lollapalooza debut, moe. guitarist and vocalist Al Schnier stopped by for a brief chat with Lumino about his band’s inclusion in the festival, his excitement at being in Chicago, and his readiness for moedown, a late summer festival in upstate New York headlined by the band and including acts such as Ryan Adams and The Roots.

At the interview, Schnier was full of excitement, and he brought that energy to life later that afternoon when moe. performed in front of a packed crowd at the AT&T stage.
The band, which has been compared to guitar-heavy greats Led Zeppelin and Steely Dan, is no stranger to the nature of music festivals. moe. not only headlines its own festival in New York every year, but also played the 2006 Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee. Schnier declared that in addition to the nice weather, nothing really compares to the kind of energy and crowds that festivals tend to boast. But he said that Lolla, which he had attended at its first run in 1992, is unique for its musical diversity, and he was excited at moe.’s fist invitation into the event’s lineup.
During the band’s late afternoon performance, moe. pulled out hits from its latest studio album “The Conch.” The songs, most of which contained long guitar solos and rock/blues vocals, had huge success with the large crowd and set up festival goers for the rock-heavy night to come. |
